  1. Birth of Jesus

1 What I am saying is that as long as an heir is a minor, he is no different from a slave, even though he is the owner of it all. 2 He remains under the supervision of guardians and trustees until the date designated by the father. 3 This is also true of us. As long as we were children, we were enslaved to the forces of this world. 4 However, when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, 5 in order to redeem those who were under the Law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. 6 And because you are sons, God has sent into our hearts the Spirit of his Son, crying out “Abba! Father!” 7 Therefore, you are no longer a slave but a son; and if you are a son, then through God you are also an heir. *(NCB)

Pick any one Reflection below for Meditating this Decade:

A) BEING FULLY ALIVE [Read verses 1-7 above] Am I a slave or a heir? Let us ponder on these words of St Irenaeus (130-202AD) : "The glory of God is man fully alive."

  • Meditation: Jesus you came to give us life. Be born anew in my heart today. I give you my heart totally, freely, faithfully and fruitfully this day. Grant me the grace for an unquenchable desire for you in my life. And the will to respond to your bountiful graces, and weed out all forms of slavery in me: addictions, sloth, bitterness, ingratitude, fear and self-love. So that I may be your co-heir and experience your glory in me being fully alive right here on earth. St Irenaeus, pray for us.

B) [You may use the above reflections or when praying as a family or group come up with your own! Have one family member read a part or the entire scriptural passage above that strikes them (1 or 2 verses is just fine). Listen with an open heart as this person shares his/her thoughts or insights. A family praying the rosary together is a graced-filled way to foster spiritual growth and bonding together.]
